After sustaining a concussion this preseason, Robert Griffin III has finally been medically cleared by team doctors to hold the clipboard for the Week 1 season opener. “It’s obviously a thrill to have RGIII back and healthy in time for him to hold the clipboard as our backup quarterback this season,” head coach Jay Gruden told reporters on Saturday, “We weren’t sure if he’d recover in time. But RGIII is a fighter, and he fought like hell to be our number two option.” Gruden went onto elaborate the other team activities RGIII has been cleared to partake in, which include sitting on the bench, drinking Gatorade, and holding conversations on the sideline with other second string players. Robert Griffin III himself couldn’t be reached for comment, as the Redskins had encased him in carbonite to avoid any further injuries to their star back up.
