Earlier this week, Discovery Channel announced that in a new episode of Naked and Afraid they will send contestants to try and survive in the city of Detroit. James Garner, the showrunner for the show, which features two randomly paired strangers trying to survive in the wild with no clothes or tools, said in the press release that, “We like to send contestants to environments where surviving is an intensely hard feat that requires resolve and determination to accomplish, so Detroit seemed like a natural fit for our next habitat to feature on the show.” Garner continued in the release, stating that “Detroit may in fact be the toughest climate we’ve sent contestants to yet” and assures viewers that “all steps are being taken to assure the contestants are in no real danger” and that “they will be pulled out if their lives are at risk.” Garner then admitted at the end of the press release that with no clothing, no water, and no food, the future contestants will likely be better suited to survive the city than half of its residents.
