Golfer Disqualified From U.S. Open For Smiling, Having Too Much Fun

Yesterday during the U.S. Open, golfer Steven Fox was disqualified from the tournament for, according to USGA officials, “smiling, laughing, and looking like he was having too much fun.” President of the USGA, Glen Nager, made a statement, saying, “What Fox was doing is exactly the sort of tomfoolery I don’t allow during my golf events. It’s that kind of lighthearted attitude that could result in our wonderful sport becoming mainstream, and I just won’t have that.” Other officials called Fox’s display of happiness as “disgusting” and “an affront to everything golf is about.” This incident is reminiscent of something that happened earlier that afternoon, when Edward Loar was given a two stroke penalty for commenting on how nice the weather was.
