An intense position battle is erupting at Denver Broncos OTAs, as newcomer Wes Welker is competing with Eric Decker to see who will start at the position of white wide receiver who is really good in the slot. Welker commented on the competition after practice, saying, “In New England, I was always fighting for the white wide receiver who is really good in the slot position. It seems every week the Patriots would sign a white wide receiver who is really good in the slot. So I’m not a stranger to this sort of competition, and I look forward to challenging Eric to the be the best white wide receiver who is really good in the slot on this team.” Decker responded to these comments by saying, “Wes is just a great guy all around, and he really is the prototypical white wide receiver who is really good in the slot. It’s going to take all I can to be as white and good in the slot as I possibly can.” This sort of position battle is nothing new for Denver, as head coach John Fox came out last week and said that Champ Bailey and Quentin Jammer are currently competing for the starting job of old cornerback who is past his prime.
